The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, on Thursday commissioned the newly renovated Operational Base of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in Ijora, Lagos, as part of efforts to strengthen the command’s response to violent crime and other security threats.

At the ceremony, the Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), handed over five operational vehicles, 1,200 raincoats and 1,000 pairs of operational boots to the command to enhance policing operations and improve officers’ welfare.

Speaking at the event, Fatai said effective policing depends on strong collaboration among government, security agencies, stakeholders and the public, adding that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led, technology-driven and proactive policing strategies to protect lives and property across the state.

“The renovation of the VCRU Operational Base and the provision of additional operational assets will significantly enhance the Command’s responsiveness to security challenges,” he said.

The police commissioner thanked the Lagos State Government, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Security Trust Fund for supporting efforts to strengthen policing infrastructure and operational capacity in the state.

He also expressed appreciation to Lagos residents for their continued cooperation and confidence in the police, assuring them that the command would sustain efforts to make the state safer and more secure.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the VCRU is a specialised tactical unit established under the initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to provide rapid response to violent crimes and other high-risk incidents through intelligence-led operations and coordinated enforcement.

The event was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders and security stakeholders, including the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Ayodele Ogunsan, alongside senior officers of the Lagos State Police Command.
