BOCA Energy, BOCA IT Systems Bag Double Honours at Lagos NUJ Press Week

BOCA Energy Resources Limited and BOCA IT Systems Limited have been honoured with two major awards at the 2026 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel Press Week in Lagos for their contributions to Nigeria’s energy, technology and corporate sectors.

The companies received the Business Titan/CEO of the Year Award and the Most Innovative Energy and Technology Solution Providers Award at the grand finale of the annual Press Week held at the NERDC Conference Centre, Agidingbi, Ikeja.

Also honoured was the companies’ Head of Media and Publicity, Alfred Abiodun, who received the Credence in Journalism Award for his contributions to corporate communications and support for the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel.

The event, themed “Journalism and Nation Building: Promoting Accountability and Good Governance,” brought together journalists, government officials, business leaders and other stakeholders to examine the media’s role in deepening democracy and promoting accountable governance.

The awards were presented to the Chairman and Managing Director of BOCA Energy Resources Ltd and BOCA IT Systems Ltd, Engr. James Ukachukwu, in recognition of his leadership and the companies’ growing impact in the energy and technology industries.

Receiving the awards on his behalf, the Director of Operations, Reginald Onyirioha Ofoegbu, described the honours as a source of encouragement for the companies to remain committed to national development.

“We are proud to associate with the progressive ideals these awards represent, and we are encouraged to do even better,” he said.

Ofoegbu stressed that building a better Nigeria requires the collective efforts of government, the private sector and citizens.

According to him, BOCA’s support for the NUJ Press Week reflects the company’s belief in strengthening institutions that promote accountability and responsible governance.

“We should not leave everything to the government or spend our time pointing fingers. We must come together and contribute our skills towards building Nigeria,” he said.

He noted that journalists play a critical role in holding leaders and institutions accountable, adding that the company would continue to support initiatives that promote transparency, integrity and responsible leadership.

“As a corporate entity, BOCA is boldly saying that we are in sync with everyone who believes in the greatness of Nigeria, and we are ready to put our money where our mouth is,” Ofoegbu added.

In a goodwill message delivered by Ofoegbu, Ukachukwu described credible journalism as an indispensable pillar of democracy, saying societies can only make meaningful progress when citizens have access to accurate and trustworthy information.

“If crude oil powers economies and technology powers innovation, then credible journalism powers democracy. Without trustworthy information, societies drift; with it, nations progress,” he said.

Ukachukwu observed that the rapid spread of information through social media has heightened the responsibility of professional journalists to uphold accuracy, fairness and integrity.

He likened journalism to business, saying both thrive on public confidence and lose relevance when credibility is compromised.

“In business, once trust is lost, customers walk away. In journalism, once credibility is compromised, audiences do the same. Trust, therefore, remains our shared capital,” he stated.

He also commended journalists for their role in promoting accountability and helping the public distinguish facts from misinformation.

The awards underscore the increasing recognition of private sector organisations that support media development, innovation and good governance.
