A student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Fadina Segun Samson, popularly known as SEGZY, has won the BIGI Music Competition at the institution, taking home a cash prize of ₦500,000.

SEGZY emerged winner during the three-day Soundcity OnTour 2026 campus event held from October 7 to 9, beating Olawumi David, known as Dayvo, who finished second with ₦350,000, and Adebayo Moyinoluwa, popularly known as Sourde, who came third with ₦150,000.

The development was announced in a statement made available to journalists by Adejoke Salami, Media Executive for the event.

The programme featured music, dance, games and other entertainment activities, culminating in a concert that showcased emerging musical talents among students.

At the regional finals, Taiwo Oladapo Opeyemi, known as T.Boss, of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), emerged winner, while SEGZY of FUNAAB came second. Alabi David, popularly known as The Vyine, of the University of Ibadan, finished third.

The Brand Manager of BIGI, Biola Aransiola, said the competition was aimed at providing young artistes with opportunities to showcase their talents, gain recognition and advance their musical ambitions.

“There is no shortage of talent on Nigerian campuses. What matters is creating platforms where young artistes can be heard, recognised and encouraged to go further,” Aransiola said.

She added that the opportunity for young performers to demonstrate their abilities and gain recognition made the initiative worthwhile.

Soundcity OnTour 2026 is sponsored by BIGI and Fearless Energy Drink, brands of Rite Foods Limited. The initiative combines music competitions, dance challenges, interactive activities and live concerts across tertiary institutions.

According to the statement, the tour is expanding to 20 institutions, following its debut across 10 campuses in 2023.

The tour is expected to continue at Kwara State University, where more emerging artistes will have the opportunity to compete and showcase their musical abilities.
