An emerging musician, Abdulrazak Saubana, popularly known as Savahdor, has won the Bigi Music Competition at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), taking home ₦500,000 as the overall winner of the contest.
Savahdor emerged ahead of other contestants during the competition, which formed part of the Soundcity OnTour programme held at the university between October 26 and 28.
Mohammed Abdulrasheed Ayomidimeji, known by his stage name Bamz, finished as first runner-up and received ₦350,000, while Adenekan Victoria, popularly known as Rhieyha, came third with a cash prize of ₦150,000.
The three winners shared a total of ₦1 million, with the competition providing an opportunity for emerging campus musicians to demonstrate their creative abilities and gain recognition before a wider audience.
The contest was one of the major attractions of the three-day Soundcity OnTour experience, which brought music and live entertainment to the university community, drawing students together through performances and other activities.
Powered by Bigi and Fearless Energy Drink, Soundcity OnTour is a campus initiative taking entertainment and music competitions to universities across the country, with a focus on engaging young people and providing opportunities for aspiring performers.
Speaking on the initiative, Brand Manager, Bigi, Biola Aransiola, said the programme was designed to strengthen the brand’s connection with young Nigerians while providing a platform for emerging talents to showcase their abilities.
Aransiola said the initiative was not limited to entertainment but also sought to create memorable experiences for students and give upcoming musicians opportunities to gain visibility.
“Soundcity OnTour allows us to connect with young Nigerians through something they genuinely love. Beyond the excitement, we want to create moments that bring students together and give emerging talents a chance to showcase what they can do,” she said.
Following the conclusion of activities at UNILORIN, the tour moved to Kwara State University (KWASU), where the next edition was scheduled to hold from October 29 to 31.
The organisers said the programme would continue to provide a platform for students across participating universities to express themselves through music, discover their potential and compete for recognition.
For Savahdor, Bamz and Rhieyha, the competition provided not only financial rewards but also an opportunity to bring their musical talents into the spotlight.
