FUMAN Celebrates King Sunny Ade at 80

The Federation of Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria (FUMAN) has felicitated legendary Juju musician, King Sunny Ade, on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

The association, under the leadership of its President, Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Agboola, popularly known as SK Sensation, described the music icon as a living legend whose contributions have significantly shaped Nigeria’s music industry and cultural heritage.

In a birthday message signed by FUMAN’s National Publicity Relations Officer, Adebola Muili, popularly known as King Kakaki Safari, the association celebrated King Sunny Ade’s “extraordinary talent, creativity and dedication” to Nigerian music.

FUMAN said the veteran musician had inspired generations of artistes and music lovers through a career that has helped project Nigerian music and culture to audiences beyond the country.

The association noted that King Sunny Ade’s music had contributed to the preservation and promotion of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, while his artistry had earned him recognition on the global stage.

“Today, we celebrate not just an icon of Nigerian music, but a living legend whose extraordinary talent, creativity and dedication have taken Nigerian music to the global stage,” the statement said.

FUMAN also commended the musician for his enduring influence on the entertainment industry, saying his musical legacy would continue to inspire younger generations of artistes.

The association prayed for continued good health, peace, joy and many more fruitful years for the octogenarian, describing his life and career as a source of inspiration to the Nigerian music community.

The statement added: “On behalf of FUMAN, we pray that Almighty God continues to bless you with sound health, renewed strength, peace, joy and many more fruitful years.”

King Sunny Ade, whose real name is Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye, was born on September 22, 1946, and is widely recognised as one of Nigeria’s foremost Juju musicians. He has played a significant role in taking the genre to international audiences, including through his recordings and performances from the 1980s onward.

The FUMAN leadership wished the music legend a memorable birthday and continued fulfilment as he advances in age.
