The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, has declared that quality education remains one of the most effective tools for combating terrorism, banditry and violent extremism in Nigeria.
Musa stated this during the commissioning of the Kaduna Christian Academy in Ungwan Sunday, Sabon Tasha, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, built by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Describing insecurity as an “asymmetric war,” the Defence Minister said criminal elements thrive on ignorance, radicalisation and hopelessness, stressing that education provides a lasting solution to such threats.
“As Minister of Defence, I view this school as a critical military asset without a single rifle,” he said. “True and lasting security is anchored on the defeat of ignorance and the conquest of hopelessness.”

He commended the DSS and its partners — Nest Global Resources, Dan Oil Exploration Limited and Tantina Security Services — for investing in education and community development.
According to him, the academy represents more than a school project, noting that it reflects the government’s commitment to winning public trust and tackling insecurity through inclusive development.
“We see the DSS in a different light — as builders of the future,” Musa stated, adding that “a secure and educated mind is the best defence against the merchants of chaos.”
The Minister noted that the project followed a similar intervention in Danbushiya community, where the DSS constructed a school for the Muslim community as part of efforts to promote peaceful coexistence and inter-faith harmony.
He urged students to embrace learning and discipline, while calling on residents and youths in the area to protect the facility and support security agencies.
Governor Uba Sani, represented by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Justice, Barrister James Kanyip, praised the initiative and pledged continued collaboration with security agencies and development partners to improve education and security across the state.
