Lagos govt faults Sahara Reporters over Sanwo-Olu ‘resignation’ claim

The Lagos State Government has dismissed as false a report by Sahara Reporters alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had been ordered to resign on health grounds.

The development was revealed in a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Mr Gboyega Akosile, and made available to journalists.

Sahara Reporters had claimed that the governor was under pressure to step down over alleged health concerns, with Deputy Governor Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat expected to take over.

But the state government described the report as “false in its entirety.”

“We have noted with concern a false report by Sahara Reporters alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been ordered to resign on health grounds with the Deputy Governor set to take over,” Akosile said.

“This report is false in its entirety. Nobody has asked the Lagos Governor to resign this is another fake news, which has become a pattern of Sahara Reporters,” he added.

He maintained that the governor remains fit and is fully discharging his duties.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his duties as Governor of Lagos State,” the statement said.

Akosile also disclosed that the Deputy Governor had earlier paid the governor a courtesy visit to formally inform him of his intention to contest for the governorship.

“Earlier today, the Governor received Deputy Governor Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who paid him a courtesy visit to formally notify him of his intention to contest for Governor. The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, as is customary,” he stated.

The government urged the public to disregard the report, describing it as fake and misleading.
