Promasidor Nigeria has reported a 30 per cent reduction in paper usage this year, alongside significant savings from improved resource management, as the company introduced a new digital platform to strengthen employee participation in its sustainability efforts.
The company disclosed this during its 2026 Sustainability Day, where it unveiled the Eco Alert App, designed to enable employees to report sustainability-related concerns and support their timely resolution.
The initiative is expected to provide workers with a direct channel to identify environmental and resource-management issues, reinforcing the company’s efforts to make sustainability a shared responsibility across its operations.
Speaking at the event, Promasidor’s Chief Technical Officer, Brighton Ochieng, said the company had recorded progress in reducing paper consumption and improving the management of water and energy resources, despite challenges encountered along the way.
Ochieng disclosed that paper usage had declined by 30 per cent year-to-date, adding that improved approaches to water and energy consumption had also contributed to resource efficiency and generated substantial savings for the business.
The development highlights the potential financial benefits of sustainable business practices, particularly through reduced waste and more efficient use of operational resources.
The newly introduced Eco Alert App is intended to complement these efforts by encouraging employees to identify areas requiring attention and report issues that could affect the company’s sustainability objectives.
Rather than relying solely on management policies and corporate targets, the platform is designed to involve employees directly in identifying problems and contributing to practical solutions within the workplace.
Also speaking at the event, the company’s Packaging and Sustainability Manager, Solomon Makanjuola, discussed emerging sustainability trends and encouraged employees to adopt more environmentally responsible practices in their daily activities.
The event also recognised employees whose contributions had supported the company’s sustainability agenda, with the Heat Factory receiving special recognition for adopting a paperless process.
The recognition underscored how changes in routine workplace procedures could help reduce paper consumption and promote more efficient use of resources.
Employees also participated in a sustainability quiz designed to test their knowledge and reinforce lessons from the programme, while attendees pledged to extend sustainable practices beyond the workplace to their homes and wider communities.
The company said the introduction of the Eco Alert App, alongside its progress in reducing paper consumption and improving resource efficiency, reflected its commitment to building a workplace culture in which employees actively participate in identifying challenges and driving improvements.
