Polaris Bank has planted 10,000 trees across 16 locations in Nigeria as part of its environmental sustainability initiative aimed at promoting climate action, restoring degraded land and supporting community development.
The initiative, launched in 2024, has covered the Federal Capital Territory and 13 states, with the bank extending the programme through a partnership with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) at the Lekki Conservation Centre, Lagos.

The latest exercise, held on Monday, October 12, 2026, forms part of the bank’s efforts to promote environmental conservation and encourage sustainable practices through practical interventions.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Director, Corporate and Investment Banking, Polaris Bank, Abimbola Ozomah, said sustainability remained central to the bank’s operations and community engagement.
She explained that the tree-planting programme was designed to translate the bank’s environmental commitments into tangible benefits for communities and the ecosystem.
According to her, the trees would contribute to restoring degraded land, improving soil fertility and increasing vegetation cover, while also creating opportunities for income generation as they mature.
Ozomah said the partnership with the NCF represented another step in the bank’s sustainability efforts, adding that environmental protection required the collective participation of individuals, organisations and other stakeholders.
She urged participants to ensure that the seedlings were properly nurtured, noting that the long-term benefits of tree planting depended on sustained care and commitment.
The Polaris Bank executive said small environmental actions could produce significant results when sustained and adopted collectively, stressing the need to work towards a greener and more sustainable Nigeria.
The bank said its nationwide tree-planting programme and partnerships with environmental organisations formed part of its broader commitment to climate resilience, ecological restoration and sustainable community development.
