Guaranty Trust Bank Limited (GTBank) has enabled customers to link their debit cards to Google Wallet and use Google Pay for online transactions locally and internationally.
The bank announced the development on Tuesday, October 27, saying the service would allow customers to make payments without repeatedly entering their card details at checkout.
With the new option, customers can pay for subscriptions, book flights and hotels, purchase goods and services, settle bills and access digital services by selecting Google Pay at checkout and confirming their payments.
Commenting on the launch, GTBank’s Managing Director, Mrs Miriam Olusanya, said the initiative was designed to simplify online payments and provide customers with access to a globally recognised digital payment solution.
“Our customers are increasingly looking for simpler and more secure ways to pay online, both locally and internationally,” Olusanya said.
She added that enabling customers to link their debit cards to Google Wallet would make online payments more convenient and reduce the need to repeatedly enter card details.
According to the bank, Google Pay incorporates security features designed to help protect customers’ payment information during online transactions.
Olusanya said the introduction of the service reflected the bank’s commitment to removing friction from everyday banking and developing solutions that align with customers’ increasingly digital lifestyles.
She added that the initiative was part of the wider group’s efforts to use technology to make financial services more accessible and intuitive.
GTBank said the service would give customers another option for making online payments, subject to the availability of Google Pay in supported countries and regions.
