The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to modernise the country’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ response to contemporary security challenges.
The newly acquired platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters and two H-125 helicopters, according to a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.
The three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters were received in Lagos on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, as part of 10 helicopters recently acquired by the Federal Government.
The remaining seven AW-109 helicopters are expected to be delivered before the end of the year, the statement said.
The development is expected to boost the availability of operational aviation assets and enhance the NAF’s ability to respond to security challenges across multiple theatres of operation.
Commenting on the acquisition, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described it as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernisation and re-equipment of the Nigerian Air Force.
Aneke said the new platforms would increase asset availability and improve the Service’s responsiveness across multiple theatres.
He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for what he described as his sustained confidence in and commitment to the Nigerian Air Force.
The helicopters are expected to undergo post-delivery assembly before their formal induction and subsequent operationalisation, according to the NAF.
