The Commander of the Nigerian Air Force Base in Badagry has assured residents of Kankon Community that any personnel found culpable of harassment, intimidation or assault against civilians will face appropriate disciplinary action.
The assurance followed a meeting between the Commander and the Baale of Kankon Community, Chief Abraham Abayomi Bodewuse, who brought complaints of alleged misconduct by personnel at the Air Force checkpoint to the attention of the military authority.
Bodewuse disclosed this in an official statement dated November 3, 2026, in which he said his attention had been drawn to reports and concerns over the alleged harassment and assault of residents, particularly those returning to their homes after the day’s work.

According to him, the incidents had reportedly been occurring for some time, generating concern among residents and other members of the community.
The Baale, who is a retired senior officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, said he considered it necessary to engage the Air Force authorities, given the boundary shared by Kankon Community with the Nigerian Air Force base.
He acknowledged the security challenges confronting military personnel entrusted with protecting lives, property and sensitive installations, but stressed that such responsibilities should not undermine the rights and dignity of civilians.
He maintained that security operations must be conducted with professionalism and discipline, as well as respect for members of the public.
Recounting his meeting with the Commander, Bodewuse said the military officer claimed he was previously unaware of the alleged incidents but assured him that misconduct by personnel would not be tolerated.
He quoted the Commander as assuring that any officer found wanting would face appropriate disciplinary action.
The Commander also encouraged residents who had experienced or witnessed harassment, intimidation or assault to provide relevant information that could assist in identifying the personnel involved.
Bodewuse said such information could include the names or physical descriptions of the officers, dates and times of the incidents, as well as other details that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged misconduct.
He added that affected residents could forward their complaints directly to the Commander or through his office as the Baale for necessary attention and follow-up.
While appealing to residents to remain calm and cooperate with lawful security procedures, Bodewuse assured them that their safety and well-being remained a priority.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining a cordial relationship between Kankon Community and the Nigerian Air Force authorities, while ensuring that the concerns of residents received appropriate attention.
The development comes amid concerns among residents over the treatment of civilians at security checkpoints in the area, particularly those who have to travel home after work and other legitimate engagements.
