The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has pledged tighter security at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ojajuni gave the assurance during a visit to the Ogun State INEC office on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, where he met with the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Feyijimi Saseyi, to discuss security arrangements for electoral personnel, facilities and materials ahead of the polls.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday, October 15.

During the visit, Ojajuni declared that the INEC office would become the command’s “second office” until the end of the 2027 general elections, underscoring the police command’s commitment to securing the electoral process.

He said the command would focus on intelligence-led policing, early threat assessment, effective information sharing and coordinated deployment to protect electoral officials, voters, election materials and facilities.

The commissioner, who described INEC as a critical institution in Nigeria’s democratic process, stressed the need for sustained cooperation between the police and the electoral body to ensure peaceful elections.

He also recalled a security workshop organised by the command in Abeokuta for security agencies and other relevant stakeholders as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.

According to him, INEC participated in the workshop, which provided an opportunity to strengthen cooperation and improve coordination on election-related security matters.

Responding, Saseyi commended the commissioner for the visit and reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to working with the police and other stakeholders to ensure credible elections.

“On our part, we will also be open, transparent and committed to this assignment so that, at the end of it all, we will achieve free, fair, transparent and credible elections,” she said.

Ojajuni urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to shun violence, intimidation and other activities capable of undermining the electoral process.

He also encouraged residents to report credible security concerns promptly through the nearest police station or the command’s established communication channels, while warning against the spread of unverified information.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with INEC, other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to promote public safety and support a peaceful electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
