CP Reaffirms Commitment to Corps Members’ Safety, Youth Development in Ogun

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Ogun State Police Command to the protection of lives and property, assuring members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state of adequate security throughout their service year.

The assurance was given on Monday, August 3, 2026, when the Ogun State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Adewuyi Omolabake Frances, led members of her executive management team on a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.

Mrs. Adewuyi commended the cordial relationship between the NYSC and the Ogun State Police Command, describing the partnership as beneficial to corps members. She praised the Command for its commitment to the welfare, mentorship and security of corps members deployed to police formations and across the state.

She also appreciated the Command’s proactive security measures and pledged the Scheme’s continued cooperation in intelligence sharing to sustain peace and security in Ogun State.

Responding, Ojajuni said the protection of lives and property remains the constitutional responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force and assured that the Command would continue to uphold that mandate without compromise.

“The protection of lives and property remains a non-negotiable operational standard, and we will continue to ensure the safety of all residents, including corps members,” he said.

The police commissioner urged corps members to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the NYSC scheme to develop themselves, build resilience and prepare for leadership roles.

Drawing from his own experience as a former corps member, he advised them to shun crime and all forms of illicit association, warning that the NYSC uniform would not shield anyone found culpable of criminal acts.

He charged them to remain worthy ambassadors of the Scheme, their respective states and Nigeria.

Ojajuni also introduced the visitors to the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), describing it as a community-based initiative aimed at addressing cultism, substance abuse and other social vices through advocacy and value reorientation.

He disclosed that the Command would soon embark on a statewide campaign to expand the reach of the initiative across schools and communities in Ogun State.

The commissioner further called on the NYSC management to sustain strict discipline and regulatory oversight to help nurture responsible and law-abiding young citizens.

He recalled the recent rescue of 18 stranded corps members along the Ogbere-Ijebu Ode axis after their vehicle broke down at night, saying the swift operation underscored the Command’s resolve to ensure the safety of every resident in the state.

According to him, the successful evacuation of the corps members reaffirmed the Police Command’s unwavering commitment to public safety and security.
