The Lagos State Government on Saturday reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment and sustainable economic growth, highlighting Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s remarks at the 10th Nigeria-European Union (EU) Business Forum held in Lagos recently.
Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Mr. Babatunde Onigbanjo, made the remarks while welcoming participants to the landmark forum, describing it as a strategic platform that has, over the past decade, strengthened trade and investment relations between Nigeria and the European Union through sustained dialogue and practical collaboration between government and the private sector.
The governor commended the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG), the Chamber of European Businesses in Nigeria (Eurocham), and EU member states represented in Nigeria for their unwavering partnership in advancing economic cooperation and promoting sustainable investment across the country.
Speaking on the theme, “Enhancing Sustainable Investment Together,” Sanwo-Olu said the forum came at a defining moment when countries are seeking innovative approaches to build resilient economies, accelerate digital transformation and respond to the growing impact of climate change.
He stressed that sustainable investment remains critical to achieving these shared objectives, adding that Lagos State’s T.H.E.M.E.S. development agenda aligns with global priorities through sustained investments in modern infrastructure, technology, digital innovation, transportation and improved connectivity, as well as policies that promote enterprise, ease of doing business and inclusive economic development.
“As Nigeria’s commercial and financial capital, Lagos remains committed to creating an enabling environment that attracts both local and foreign investment while unlocking opportunities for businesses to thrive,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu noted that the Nigeria-EU Business Forum has become a respected platform for transforming policy discussions into concrete investment opportunities, strengthening commercial partnerships and expanding economic cooperation between Nigeria and the European Union.
He expressed confidence that deliberations at the forum would yield practical outcomes capable of attracting fresh investments, deepening economic cooperation and promoting sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
“I want to express confidence in the fact that deliberations at the 10th Nigeria-EU Business Forum would produce actionable outcomes, catalyse new investments, deepen economic cooperation between Nigeria and the European Union, and contribute meaningfully to sustainable growth and shared prosperity,” he said.
