The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has sought the support of the Lagos State Police Command ahead of the councillorship by-elections slated for June 23, 2026.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the request was made when the Chairman of LASIEC, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (Rtd), led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

The statement noted that the delegation condoled with the Commissioner of Police over the demise of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration and congratulated him on his appointment.

Justice Okikiolu-Ighile also commended the Lagos State Police Command for its proactive role during previous elections and informed the police leadership of the forthcoming by-elections in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area (Ward C), Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (Ward H), and Somolu Local Government Area (Ward F).

The LASIEC chairman appealed for continued collaboration and security support to ensure peaceful and credible elections in the affected areas.

Responding, CP Fatai appreciated the visit, describing it as a demonstration of goodwill and institutional partnership.

He assured the commission of adequate security deployment before, during and after the elections.

“We will ensure adequate security deployment before, during and after the elections, while remaining committed to maintaining law and order and guaranteeing a peaceful electoral process in the affected areas,” he said.
