Sanwo-Olu mourns legendary nollywood actor Olu Jacobs

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has described the death of legendary Nollywood actor, Oludotun Bayegun Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, as a great loss to Nigeria and the creative industry.

Olu Jacobs, who died at the age of 84, was widely recognised for his decades-long contribution to Nigerian theatre, television and film, as well as his appearances in British television series and movies.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a condolence message issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, said the late actor’s legacy would continue to live on through his works and the memories he created.

He described Olu Jacobs’ contributions to the creative industry as evergreen, noting that his talent, grace and creativity left an enduring mark on the entertainment sector.

Sanwo-Olu said the veteran actor used the theatrical medium not only to entertain audiences but also to inspire and positively influence society.

The Governor said, “Without any iota of doubt, Olu Jacobs is one of the respected fathers of Nollywood. He was a legendary actor and filmmaker who featured in several British and Nigerian television series and movies.

“He shaped the Nigerian theatre, television, and film industry for over five decades. His extraordinary life and the lasting impact he made with his artistry have solidified his legacy.”

Sanwo-Olu added that the late actor’s vibrant spirit and the joy he shared through his craft would remain in the hearts of Nigerians.

He said Olu Jacobs would be sorely missed by his family, friends, fans, associates and the numerous admirers of his talent and contributions to Nigerian entertainment.

The Governor extended his condolences to the actor’s widow, Mrs. Joke Silva, his family, friends and colleagues, as well as the wider Nigerian entertainment industry.

He prayed for the eternal repose of the deceased and asked God to grant the family and members of the creative industry the strength to bear the loss and the comfort to preserve and honour his remarkable legacy.
