The Ogun State Police Command and the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors have strengthened efforts to combat land fraud, impersonation and other related crimes through enhanced collaboration and public sensitisation.

This formed part of discussions during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Ogun State Branch, to the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, at the Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

The delegation was led by the State Chairman of the Institution, Abiodun Olufemi Liadi.

Speaking during the visit, Liadi disclosed that the Institution had developed a comprehensive directory containing details of all registered surveyors operating within Ogun State as part of measures to curb impersonation and fraudulent activities in the profession.

According to him, the initiative would assist law enforcement agencies and members of the public in identifying licensed practitioners and exposing fake operators.

“Registered surveyors are guided by strict ethical standards,” he said, while urging the police to utilise the directory in distinguishing genuine professionals from impostors.

The delegation also presented copies of the Institution’s Code of Conduct and directory of registered members to the police command to further strengthen institutional cooperation.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Association of Private Practicing Surveyors of Nigeria, Kayode Adekoya, assured the police of the profession’s internal disciplinary mechanisms.

He stated that any surveyor found engaging in unethical conduct or practices contrary to professional regulations faces stiff sanctions, including possible revocation of licence.

In his remarks, CP Ojajuni described surveying and mapping as essential tools for infrastructural development, effective land administration and the maintenance of peace and security.

The police commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s willingness to collaborate with the Institution, particularly in intelligence sharing and public enlightenment.

He also pledged to sustain all existing partnerships and engagements established with the Institution under previous leaderships.

Ojajuni further urged surveyors to intensify awareness campaigns against land grabbing and other fraudulent land transactions, describing land-related disputes as major threats to public peace and security in many communities.

The visit ended with an interactive session and renewed commitment by both parties to deepen collaboration in the interest of public safety and professional integrity.
