The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to reshape its electricity sector with a stronger focus on efficiency, investment, and consumer protection, as the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC) convened its maiden Stakeholders’ Engagement Forum in Lagos.

The event, held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Cordis Hotel, brought together operators, investors, development partners, consumer groups, community representatives, artisans, and members of the media across the electricity value chain.

Speaking at the forum, the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Member of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC), Mrs. Temitope George, described the engagement as a defining moment in the evolution of Lagos’ electricity market, noting that it signals a new phase of transparency, collaboration, and inclusive regulation.

According to her, the Commission is committed to building “a functional, efficient, innovative, and consumer-centred electricity market” capable of supporting Lagos State’s expanding economic needs while protecting consumers and attracting investments.

She reaffirmed LASERC’s mandate to set and enforce standards, promote clean energy adoption, enable innovation, and safeguard electricity consumers across the state.

A major highlight of the engagement was the announcement of plans to establish zonal offices in Ikorodu, Amuwo Odofin/Badagry axis, and Sangotedo/Epe axis. George said the initiative is aimed at improving access to regulatory services and strengthening complaint resolution mechanisms. The offices are expected to become operational in the third quarter of the year.

“Sustainable progress in the electricity sector can only be achieved through strong partnerships, shared responsibility, and continuous stakeholder engagement,” she said, adding that ongoing reforms present “significant opportunities for investment, infrastructure development, and clean energy solutions.”

The forum also featured detailed presentations on LASERC’s regulatory agenda, market performance, retail service code, and operational framework by key officials, including Olakunle Falola, Executive Member for Licensing and Economic Regulation; Adekunle Olopade, Executive Member for Engineering and Standards; and Adetunji Adesanya of the Lagos Independent System Operator (LAISO).

Their presentations outlined short-, medium-, and long-term strategies aimed at strengthening market stability, improving service delivery, and deepening regulatory compliance across the electricity ecosystem.

In a symbolic regulatory milestone, the Board Chairman, Alexander Ogunbiyi, presented 14 licences and permits to compliant operators in recognition of adherence to industry standards.

The forum also featured interactive sessions where stakeholders raised concerns and proposed solutions aimed at improving electricity supply, governance, and sustainability in the state.

LASERC reaffirmed its commitment to creating a balanced regulatory environment that promotes affordability, innovation, and equity while ensuring cost-reflective and sustainable electricity services.
