The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2016 governorship election in Ondo State, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, has emerged winner of the 2020 governorship primary of the party.

Jegede defeated the incumbent Deputy Governor, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, in a keenly contested primary election held on Wednesday at the International Event Centre in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Jegede polled 888 votes to beat Ajayi to second place with 657 votes. Former National Vice Chairman of the party in the South West, Dr. Eddy Olafeso, came in distant third with 175 votes.

Eight aspirants contested the governorship primary while 2,099 delegates participated.

Jegede will fly the flag of the PDP in the October 10, 2020 governorship election against the incumbent governor, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who on Monday emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Jegede of the PDP lost to Akeredolu of the APC in the 2016 governorship election.
