The Ogun State Police Command has backed a students’ conference organised by the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic, Saapade, with emphasis on security consciousness, peaceful coexistence and police-student engagement.
The conference, tagged SWAT 1.0 Students’ Conference, is scheduled to hold on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the Leadership Auditorium of the institution.
The Command, in a statement issued by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Wednesday, said the conference would provide an avenue for constructive dialogue between students and the police on security and responsible conduct within the institution.
It said the programme, with the theme, “Preparing Students for a Purposeful Future While Navigating Campus with Excellence,” would focus on Security, Welfare, Academics, Training and Seminar.
According to the Command, the initiative is aimed at equipping students with practical knowledge, positive values and leadership skills needed to navigate campus life and prepare for the future.
It added that the security component of the conference would promote security awareness, peaceful coexistence and the collective responsibility of students in maintaining a safe and conducive academic environment.
The Command commended the SUG President and host/convener of the conference, Comr. Akinpelu B. Timothy, and his executive team for organising the programme.
Babaseyi said the Police Command remained committed to supporting student-centred initiatives that strengthen relations between the police and students.
He said such programmes were important to promoting safe, peaceful and conducive learning environments across tertiary institutions in the state.
The conference is expected to bring students together around issues of security, welfare, academic development, training and leadership as part of efforts to prepare them for life beyond the campus.
