Marwa Commends Security Agencies Over Rescue Of 20 Corps Members

By Adebola Muili

The Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), has commended security agencies for the successful rescue of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and another abducted person in the South-East.

Marwa praised the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies involved in the operation, describing the rescue as evidence of what coordinated and intelligence-driven security operations could achieve.

The NDLEA chairman, in a statement by the agency’s Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, on Thursday, said the safe return of the victims was a victory for the country and a demonstration of the courage and professionalism of the security forces.

He said the rescue of the prospective corps members was particularly significant because they represented young Nigerians who had volunteered to serve their country.

“The safe return of these young Nigerians to their families is a testament to the courage, professionalism and unity of purpose of our security agencies,” Marwa said.

According to him, the country owed corps members adequate protection as they embarked on national service, adding that the successful operation had demonstrated the capacity of security agencies to respond effectively to threats.

Marwa, a retired military officer, said the achievements of security agencies deserved greater public recognition, particularly under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

“As a retired military officer serving under the Renewed Hope Administration of President Bola Tinubu, it is imperative for us to draw public attention to this kind of achievement by our security agencies and equally commend them,” he said.

He also noted that the latest operation was part of a series of successful rescue missions carried out by security agencies across the country in recent months, saying the operations had restored hope to families affected by abductions.

“Every life rescued is a triumph for our collective resolve. These operations show that criminals cannot outrun a determined and united security architecture,” he said.

Marwa further pledged the NDLEA’s continued cooperation with other security agencies, linking the agency’s anti-drug operations to the broader fight against violent crime, kidnapping and banditry.

He said the agency would continue to dismantle drug networks that support criminal activities while strengthening intelligence-sharing and joint operations with sister security agencies.

“Where drugs flow, insecurity thrives. That is why the NDLEA will keep working with sister agencies to dismantle the networks that fund and fuel criminality, and we will deepen intelligence-sharing and joint operations,” he said.

The NDLEA chairman urged security agencies to sustain the momentum and called on Nigerians to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to combat insecurity.

He also wished the rescued prospective corps members a speedy recovery and successful reunion with their families.
