DIG Fayoade Canvasses Stronger Police-Public Collaboration During Lagos Visit

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Coordinating DIG for the South-West Geo-Political Zone, Adegoke M. Fayoade, has stressed the need for stronger collaboration between the Police and members of the public to enhance security and sustain peace in Lagos State and the South-West.

Fayoade made the call during a two-day official visit to the Lagos State Police Command, where he met with stakeholders, government officials, traditional rulers and officers of the command.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the visit was part of ongoing efforts by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to strengthen policing strategies, improve operational efficiency and foster stronger relationships between the Police and the public.

During a stakeholders’ meeting, the DIG emphasised that collaboration between the Police and members of the public was crucial to “effective security management and maintaining peace within Lagos State and the South-West region at large.”

Addressing officers and men of the command, Fayoade reaffirmed the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police to improving professionalism, discipline, officers’ welfare, technological advancement and effective service delivery across police commands nationwide.

As part of the visit, the DIG paid courtesy visits to the Lagos State Government, where he was received by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Tayo Ayinde; the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), where he met with its Executive Chairman, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan; and the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.

The statement said discussions during the visits focused on strengthening strategic partnerships, community policing and sustaining collaboration between traditional institutions and the Nigeria Police Force.

Fayoade also commended the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, and personnel of the command for their commitment to maintaining peace and public order, urging them to remain “steadfast, professional and people-oriented” in the discharge of their duties.
