Moniepoint Graduates Second DreamDevs Cohort to Boost Nigeria’s Tech Talent Pool

Leading fintech company, Moniepoint Inc., has intensified efforts to address Africa’s technology talent shortage with the graduation of the second cohort of its DreamDevs Bootcamp, a programme aimed at developing highly skilled software engineers for the continent’s growing digital economy.

The company celebrated the achievement at a Demo Day held in Lagos on Monday under the theme, “Training Done! Demo Up!”, where participants showcased innovative technology solutions designed to tackle challenges across key sectors, including real estate, healthcare, agriculture, food services and event management.

Speaking at the event, Felix Ike, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Moniepoint, described the initiative as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s digital future rather than a recruitment programme.

“DreamDevs is a structural investment in Nigeria’s digital economy. It is proof that with the right training and environment, young African engineers can compete at the highest level,” Ike said.

He revealed that some graduates from the programme’s inaugural cohort had already joined Moniepoint’s engineering team, underscoring the quality of talent being produced through the initiative.

According to him, while Africa’s digital economy continues to attract increasing global investment, the continent still faces a significant challenge in building the talent infrastructure required to sustain long-term growth.

Ike explained that DreamDevs forms part of Moniepoint’s broader commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s technology ecosystem through capacity-building programmes and strategic partnerships.

He added that the bootcamp complements the Federal Government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Initiative programme by providing specialised training and creating a pathway from foundational learning to industry employment.

Industry projections indicate that the global shortage of software developers could rise to 85 million by 2030, potentially resulting in economic losses estimated at $5.5 trillion.

Moniepoint said the DreamDevs initiative was designed to help bridge this gap by creating a sustainable pipeline of highly skilled engineers capable of supporting Africa’s expanding digital infrastructure and fintech ambitions.

The nine-week intensive programme, developed by Moniepoint’s Engineering Unit in partnership with Semicolon, equipped participants with practical skills in software engineering, cloud infrastructure, system design, backend development and software testing.

The company expressed confidence that the initiative would continue to produce industry-ready engineers and contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy.
