JMG Solar Project Saves Abuja Hospital N14m in Four Months

ABUJA — A hybrid solar power project installed by JMG Solar has helped St. Catherine Specialist Hospital, Abuja, save about N14 million in diesel costs within four months of operation, while significantly improving energy reliability at the facility.

JMG Solar, the renewable energy division of JMG Limited, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the project was designed to provide stable and efficient power supply for the hospital’s operations.

According to the company, diesel consumption at the hospital dropped from 2,000 litres per month to 1,000 litres following the installation of the hybrid solar solution, resulting in savings of about N14 million on diesel purchases over a four-month period.

The statement also revealed that the hospital’s monthly power expenditure reduced from N7 million to N5 million after the deployment of the solar system, translating into monthly savings of about N2 million after lease fees, without any capital expenditure by the healthcare facility.

St. Catherine Specialist Hospital, which operates in Abuja and Port Harcourt, had sought a more reliable and environmentally sustainable power solution to support its healthcare services and reduce operational costs.

To achieve this, JMG Solar conducted a detailed load analysis before deploying a hybrid solar power system comprising 92.8kWp solar photovoltaic generation, 65kW hybrid inverter capacity and 160.8kWh lithium battery storage.

The installation includes 160 solar panels, hybrid inverters and lithium batteries, alongside a smart monitoring system that enables real-time performance tracking.

According to the statement, the system is capable of generating approximately 11.13 megawatt-hours of solar energy monthly, equivalent to about 133.63 megawatt-hours annually, allowing the hospital to meet its energy requirements through solar generation and battery storage.

Beyond reducing energy costs, the project is expected to lower the hospital’s carbon emissions by an estimated 53,091 kilograms annually, contributing to environmental sustainability.

Commenting on the project, JMG’s representative, Chisom Okoye, said the installation had been successfully completed and was already delivering reliable energy performance.

“The 65kW hybrid solar solution with 92.8kWp solar power and 160.8kWh lithium battery storage has been successfully installed and commissioned at the client’s facility. The system is fully operational and delivering reliable energy performance,” Okoye said.
