Raising children in today’s world requires more than providing good education. As they grow, children are exposed to different ideas, values and influences, making the development of faith, character, identity and a sense of purpose an important part of their upbringing.
It is against this background that Nigerian Christian educator and author, Dr. Oluwayemisi Adepoju-Awodele, has introduced two guided journals designed to help children develop these qualities from an early age.
Known as Doxa’s Heart and David’s Heart, the journals are specially designed for children aged seven to 13, providing them with an opportunity to learn, reflect and engage with their faith in a personal and practical way.
Unlike books that simply present information for children to read, the journals encourage participation.
Children are guided to engage with God’s Word, write their thoughts, reflect on what they have learned, ask questions and consider how biblical values relate to their everyday lives.
That interactive approach makes the journals particularly relevant to parents who want to make faith and character development part of their children’s regular routine.
Doxa’s Heart is designed for girls, while David’s Heart is designed for boys. Both carry the theme, “A Journal for Raising Kingdom Giants,” reflecting the vision behind the resources—to encourage children to develop values and convictions that can guide them as they grow.
For a child, the experience can go beyond completing pages in a book. The journal can become a personal record of thoughts, questions, lessons and discoveries.
For parents, it can also provide an avenue to understand what their children are thinking and learning.
A child’s response to a question can open a conversation at home, while a written reflection can give parents an opportunity to listen, guide and connect with their children on matters of faith, character, identity and purpose.
Dr. Adepoju-Awodele, affectionately known as “Your Favorite Teacher,” brings her experience as an educator, author and mother to the project.
She is the author of Teaching: A Service to God and Humanity, which explores biblical wisdom for teaching, and King David and His Mighty Friends: A Devotional (Creation Story), a faith-based resource created to help children engage with God’s Word in a simple and engaging manner.
Her latest journals continue that commitment to children’s learning, with greater emphasis on personal reflection and participation.
The resources recognise that children will eventually face situations where parents may not be present to guide every decision. They will form friendships, encounter new ideas and make choices independently.
The question, therefore, is not only what children know, but what values will guide them when nobody is watching.
For Adepoju-Awodele, this is central to the purpose of the journals.
“What am I intentionally putting into my child’s heart, not just what am I teaching them to know, but what am I helping them become?” she asked.
The journals cover areas including faith, character, identity and purpose, encouraging children to think about how what they learn can influence the people they become.
With their separate editions for boys and girls, Doxa’s Heart and David’s Heart offer children a personal space to read, write, reflect and grow while giving parents a practical resource for nurturing meaningful conversations.

The journals officially launch on Sunday, September 13, 2026, for children aged seven to 13.
