Fidelity Bank Plc has distributed more than 2,000 food packs to vulnerable residents of Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of its efforts to support food security and improve the welfare of communities across Nigeria.
The food items were distributed through the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank Initiative at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cathedral, Itesi, Adatan, Abeokuta, under the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
Speaking during the exercise, the Regional Bank Head, South West 1, Fidelity Bank Plc, Folaranmi Jemirin, said the initiative had provided more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones since its launch in 2023.
Jemirin said the programme was aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2, which seeks to achieve Zero Hunger, adding that it reflected the bank’s commitment to creating positive social impact in its host communities.
“At Fidelity Bank, we remain committed to implementing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that improve the living conditions of our host communities and contribute to sustainable development,” he said.
He explained that the Food Bank Initiative was designed not only to provide immediate relief to vulnerable families but also to contribute to efforts aimed at ending hunger and improving food security.
Jemirin further disclosed that the bank’s interventions in Abeokuta extended beyond food distribution to areas including education, youth rehabilitation, women’s economic empowerment, social welfare and other community-focused initiatives.
“This initiative is about more than distributing food items. It is about restoring hope, strengthening communities, uplifting families, and providing meaningful support that contributes to their wellbeing,” he added.
He also expressed appreciation to the Catholic Diocese and other partners for their collaboration in making the outreach possible.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Dominic Olagbaju, commended Fidelity Bank for its continued investment in community development and support for vulnerable people.
“We sincerely appreciate Fidelity Bank for counting the Abeokuta community worthy of benefiting from this noble initiative. This gesture reflects a genuine compassion and a strong commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society,” Olagbaju said.
Launched in 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative has become one of Fidelity Bank’s major social intervention programmes, providing food support to vulnerable households through partnerships with religious institutions, community organisations and other stakeholders.
The initiative, according to the bank, is aimed at alleviating hunger while promoting inclusive development and social welfare across communities in Nigeria.
