As the 2026/2027 academic session gets underway, Fidelity Bank Plc has urged proprietors of private schools to adopt strategic financial planning and leverage appropriate funding solutions to expand their institutions and manage seasonal cash-flow pressures.
The bank, in a statement on its Fidelity EduLoan solution, said the financing facility was designed to address the peculiar financial needs of educational institutions and other stakeholders within Nigeria’s education sector.
According to the bank, eligible schools can access the facility either as a short-term loan or overdraft, with repayment structured around school fee collection cycles.
It said the arrangement was intended to help schools bridge the gap between the period when operational and capital expenses arise and when school fees are collected.
Fidelity Bank said the facility could support a range of school-related needs, including classroom renovations, purchase of furniture and teaching materials, computers and other technology equipment, school buses, books, uniforms, generators, salaries and other operating expenses.
The facility, it added, could also support the construction of new buildings and expansion of existing facilities, subject to applicable terms and credit assessment.
The bank noted that schools often face a peculiar financial cycle, with income coming largely during specific periods while expenses such as salaries, maintenance, utilities, security, transportation and learning resources continue throughout the year.
It said effective cash-flow management was therefore essential for school proprietors seeking to sustain operations while investing in growth.
“Schools operate differently from many other businesses. Income is often seasonal, but expenses continue throughout the year,” the bank stated.
Fidelity Bank said its EduLoan could help eligible schools sustain their operations during admission, registration, resumption and term-preparation periods, while also providing a financing pathway for infrastructure development, acquisition of educational resources and institutional expansion.
Beyond providing financing, the bank said it could support school proprietors with transaction management, collections, budgeting and other digitally enabled banking solutions aimed at strengthening their institutions’ financial foundations.
The bank also said its commitment to the education sector extended beyond school financing, noting that education remained a focus area of its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
According to Fidelity Bank, its interventions in the sector have included back-to-school donations, financial literacy programmes, school renovations and initiatives targeted at educators and students.
It said supporting educational institutions was also a way of supporting teachers, parents, entrepreneurs and young Nigerians who would contribute to the country’s future development.
The bank advised school proprietors to prepare early for expansion and other investment decisions, maintain accurate financial records and work with financial institutions capable of providing funding aligned with their operational cycles.
Fidelity Bank said eligible schools interested in the EduLoan could visit any of its branches or contact their Relationship Managers for information on eligibility requirements, applicable terms and available financing options.
