Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday congratulated Muslims across Nigeria on the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir, urging citizens to embrace peace, unity and peaceful coexistence.
Sanwo-Olu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, advised Muslims to remain steadfast in spirituality and draw lessons from the sacrifice, patience and faith demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim.
The governor said Eid-el-Kabir symbolises the rewards of unwavering faith and perseverance in difficult times.
According to him, the Islamic festival reminds humanity of the need for sacrifice, not only for spiritual fulfilment but also for societal growth and national development.
He said, “This symbolic Islamic festival is a reminder to us that there will always be great rewards when we have abiding faith and patience in trying periods, with persistence in prayers, and tenacity in our belief.
“It also reminds us of the sacrifice we are expected to make not only for the purpose of spiritual fulfillment but also for the progress of mankind and development of our society.”
Sanwo-Olu appealed to Nigerians to avoid actions capable of threatening the unity and stability of the country.
“I want to appeal to all Lagos residents and Nigerians to draw lessons from Prophet Ibrahim’s examples by eschewing tendencies that could severe the unity and stability in the country,” he said.
The governor also urged Nigerians to support the administration of President Bola Tinubu, saying nation-building and sustainable development require collective responsibility from citizens.
