President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Rangers International F.C. on emerging champions of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League season, describing the club’s record ninth league triumph as a major achievement for Nigerian football.

Rangers sealed the title with 68 points from 38 matches, finishing ahead of closest challengers Rivers United F.C..

In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the club’s management, players and supporters for what he called a remarkable campaign.

The President also recalled Rangers’ golden era in the 1970s and 1980s, when the Enugu-based side dominated domestic football and achieved continental success.

Tinubu specifically referenced the club’s run to the final of the 1975 African Cup of Champions Clubs and its triumph in the 1977 African Cup Winners’ Cup.

He further congratulated Peter Mbah, saying the club’s success reflected the Enugu State Government’s investments in sports and youth development.

“I must also congratulate Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State on the victory of Rangers International FC. This victory is an obvious fruit of his administration’s investments in youth and sports in the state. I commend him,” the President stated.

Tinubu described Rangers as one of Nigeria’s most historic football clubs, noting that the team has produced several outstanding players who represented the country with distinction internationally.

“As one of the oldest clubs in Nigeria, Rangers have produced some of the nation’s finest football players who went on to make the country proud on the global stage. I am proud of their achievement,” he added.

The President also commended Rivers United for what he described as an impressive season and exemplary sportsmanship throughout the campaign.

He wished both Rangers and Rivers United success as Nigeria’s representatives in next season’s CAF Champions League.
