The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has called on its chapels and members to register for the forthcoming Media Games, describing the event as an opportunity to promote fitness, strengthen professional bonds and encourage healthy living among journalists.
The council, in a notice issued by the Chairman of the Media Games Committee, Mr. Ayo Ojedokun, and the Secretary, Mr. Tunde Olubajo, urged interested participants to complete a short registration form indicating the sporting events they wish to compete in as preparations for the tournament gather momentum.
The committee explained that the information provided by participants would be used to compile a comprehensive list of competitors and finalise the draws for the various events.
It noted that the Media Games are designed not only to provide healthy competition but also to improve the physical and mental well-being of journalists, whose profession is often characterised by long working hours, tight deadlines and high-pressure assignments.
According to the committee, “Interested participants should fill out a short registration form, taking about 20 seconds to indicate which games they wish to compete in.”
It added that the registration exercise would enable organisers to properly plan the competition and ensure its smooth conduct.
The committee further stressed that regular physical activity has been linked to reduced stress, improved cardiovascular health and enhanced mental alertness, making participation in the Games particularly beneficial to media practitioners.
It therefore appealed to all NUJ chapels in Lagos State to mobilise their members for the event, noting that the Games would also provide an opportunity for journalists to interact with colleagues in a relaxed and competitive atmosphere.
Members were advised to register promptly, while the committee disclosed that the various sporting events available for participation are listed in the registration form.
