Nigeria’s Super Eagles have retained their 26th position in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings, following their impressive outings during the June international window.

The rankings, released by world football governing body, FIFA, on Thursday, showed that Nigeria remains the third-highest ranked team in Africa despite a mixed run of results in recent friendly matches.

Under head coach Eric Chelle, the three-time African champions recorded victories over Zimbabwe and Jamaica, secured a draw against Poland, and suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to European giants Portugal.

The Super Eagles began the international window on a bright note at the Unity Cup in London, defeating Zimbabwe 2-0 before overcoming Jamaica 3-0 to claim the invitational tournament title.

Nigeria thereafter continued their preparations with a 2-2 draw against Poland before losing narrowly to Portugal in Leiria.

Despite the defeat, the Super Eagles maintained their 26th position globally, reflecting the team’s consistency since Chelle took charge.

The latest ranking is expected to provide further encouragement for the Nigerian side as they continue preparations for upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and other international competitions.

On the African ranking table, Morocco remains the continent’s highest-ranked team, occupying seventh position globally, while Senegal stays ahead of Nigeria in second place in Africa. Algeria and Egypt complete the continent’s top five.

Meanwhile, reigning world champions Argentina have reclaimed the top spot in the global rankings ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

FIFA stated that Argentina’s recent victories over Honduras and Iceland helped the South American giants return to number one, with Spain, France, England and Portugal completing the top five.

The next FIFA Men’s World Rankings will be released on July 20, shortly after the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
