Ogun CP Implements IGP Reform, Appoints VCRU Commander

The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has appointed CSP Daramola Sunday Thompson as Commander of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), in line with reform directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olutunji Rilwan Disu.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bode Ojajuni, approved the appointment as part of measures to strengthen tactical operations and enhance response to violent crimes.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Abeokuta by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.

According to the statement, the reform is aimed at establishing “a unified, professional and intelligence-driven unit dedicated to tackling violent crimes,” while improving operational efficiency, accountability and coordination across the state.

It added that the appointment followed a rigorous screening process, alongside the commencement of an orientation programme for selected personnel of the unit.

“The Commissioner of Police and members of the Command Management Team actively participated in the orientation process to provide strategic guidance, operational direction and reinforce the reform objectives of the Inspector-General of Police,” the statement said.

The statement described Thompson as a seasoned officer with extensive experience, having served in key operational roles, including Officer-in-Charge of Anti-Cultism and CP Monitoring Units in Ogun, as well as Anti-Fraud and Anti-Car Theft Units in Ekiti State Command. He also served as Divisional Police Officer of Noyo Division in Ebonyi State.

Ojajuni charged the officer to align with the IGP’s reform agenda by upholding “professionalism, discipline and integrity,” and ensuring “swift, lawful and effective responses to violent crimes” across Ogun State.
