Local government councils had been reminded of their primary responsibilities which include maintenance of street and township roads without waiting for both States and the Federal governments.

These were part of the views expressed by residents of new Iyame in Ikare Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko North East local government area of Ondo state while speaking with positive fm community correspondent Ibrahim Kilani.

The residents lamented the total neglect of the area on basic infrastructural like motorable road and potable water.

When this reporter visited the road that links Funmilayo street with INEC office to Falaye street, it was a tales of woes as the deplorable condition of the road made many to park their vehicles to a distance places to their residents.

A youth leader from the area Mallam Abdullateef Bada, popularly known as Alhaji said the youths of new Iyame always come out in large numbers on an environmental days to repair the road but whenever rain falls, it will wash away the road and make it very impassable for them.

A woman trading at new Iyame, Mrs Grace Malik disclosed that politicians always come to canvass for votes during election period after which they forgot them as they always make road electioneering campaign promises.

According to her, the population of new Iyame is so intimidating that all political parties always rush there to canvass for votes.

They in view of this called on government to come to their aids as many are relocating from that area due to poor road network that it has also affected socio-economic activities of the people.

However efforts to speak to the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Akoko North East local government, Ikare, Mr. Ganiyu Ojo to comment on the development proved abortive.
