Veteran Nigerian juju and highlife musician, Iyun Janet Ajilore, popularly known as St Janet, has died after a brief illness.
The singer reportedly died on Saturday, while news of her passing emerged on Sunday, throwing fans and members of the Nigerian music industry into mourning.
Her death was announced by publisher and socialite, Otunba Femi Davies, in a post shared on his social media platforms.
Davies wrote: “St Janet (Iyun Janet Ajilore), a popular Nigerian juju and highlife musician known for her vibrant live performances, energetic stage presence and socially unfiltered party tracks, is dead. She died after a brief illness on Saturday.”
St Janet was widely known for her energetic stage performances and distinctive style, which earned her a loyal following among lovers of juju and highlife music. She also gained national attention with her controversial 2013 album, Faaji Plus, which generated widespread public debate.
As of the time of filing this report, details of her illness and funeral arrangements had yet to be made public.
