The 1976/81 Set of the Old Grammarians Society (OGS), CMS Grammar School, Lagos, is to mark its 50th anniversary of admission into the school with a legacy project aimed at supporting Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education.
The set is raising funds to sponsor one classroom in the Tola Adebonojo ICT Building, an initiative of OGS Americas, as part of activities marking the milestone.
Chairman of the 50th Anniversary Celebrations Planning Committee, Mr Kayode Olu-Martins, said the initiative was designed to enable members to give back to the institution that played a significant role in shaping their lives.
Speaking to journalists ahead of the anniversary, Olu-Martins said the 50th anniversary was not only an opportunity for members of the set to reunite and celebrate their journey, but also to contribute to the future of the school.
“This milestone is an opportunity to celebrate the school that nurtured us and helped shape the men we have become. Beyond the reunion, we want to leave a lasting legacy that will benefit generations of students,” he said.
The Tola Adebonojo ICT Building is named after Professor Tola Adebonojo, Grand Patron of the Old Grammarians Society in the Americas and UK/Europe.
According to the organisers, the contribution by the 1976/81 Set is intended to support ICT education at CMS Grammar School and help strengthen the institution’s efforts to prepare students for the future.
The anniversary celebrations will begin on Thursday, October 8, 2026, with a meet-and-greet reception, followed by a visit to the school at noon on Friday, October 9.
Members of the set will on Saturday, October 10, embark on a sightseeing and relaxation trip to Abeokuta, before the celebrations culminate on Sunday, October 11, with a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos.
The thanksgiving will be followed by a celebratory luncheon and fundraiser, to be chaired by retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour.
The 1976/81 Set was admitted into CMS Grammar School in 1976 and is commemorating five decades since its members began their secondary school education at the institution.
