BIGI and Fearless Energy Drink, in partnership with Soundcity OnTour, have taken their music, entertainment and talent-development campaign to 15 Nigerian campuses, with five more stops scheduled before the tour concludes in Abuja in October.

The initiative by Rite Foods Limited, makers of BIGI Carbonated Soft Drinks and Fearless Energy Drink, has combined live musical performances with opportunities for emerging artistes to showcase their talents before student audiences across the country.

Among the institutions visited so far are Pan-Atlantic University, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Yaba College of Technology, University of Lagos, University of Uyo, University of Calabar, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Port Harcourt, Niger Delta University and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

According to the organisers, the University of Lagos edition attracted more than 5,000 students despite heavy rainfall, with performances by Qing Madi, Falz, Joeboy, Wande Coal and Mr P of P-Square. More than 25 emerging artistes also took to the stage to showcase their talents.

Brand Manager at BIGI, Biola Arionsola, said the response from students demonstrated the strong connection between the brand and the campus community.

“The event truly set the bar. The turnout and energy of the students were outstanding, even with the weather conditions,” she said.

Beyond the headline performances, the tour has also provided a platform for emerging Nigerian artistes through the BIGI Music competition, which allows young talents to perform, compete for cash prizes and pursue opportunities at the national level.

At Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Olaniyi Oluwakemi Abisola, popularly known as Abisola, emerged as the winner of the BIGI Music competition.

Moses Yakubu Ibrahim, known as Bhig Moe, and Ibrahim Yakubu Binkalim, popularly known as Ibrahim Binkaly, finished as first and second runners-up respectively.

The three artistes shared a ₦1 million cash prize.

The organisers said standout performers can progress to the national stage, where eventual winners will receive studio production, A&R mentorship led by Bankulli, Soundcity Radio exposure and professionally produced music videos.

The tour has featured performances from artistes including Teni, Falz, Iyanya, Qing Madi, DJ Spinall, Nasboi, Kunmie, Shoday, Guchhi, Priesst, Shine and TTW.

Rite Foods said the initiative was aimed at connecting with young Nigerians through music, entertainment, creativity and opportunities for emerging talents.

With five campuses still to be visited before the tour’s conclusion in Abuja in October, the organisers said students and institutions outside the 15 campuses already visited have continued to express interest in hosting the experience.

The remaining stops are expected to further extend the reach of the campaign while giving more young Nigerians an opportunity to participate in the music, entertainment and talent-development programme.
