JMG seeks collaboration to equip Nigerian youths with future-ready Skills

JMG Limited has called for stronger collaboration among government, industry and educational institutions to equip Nigerian youths with future-ready skills needed to drive innovation, improve employability and accelerate sustainable economic growth.

The engineering solutions company made the call ahead of the 2026 World Youth Skills Day, marked annually on July 15, noting that investment in technical, digital, artificial intelligence and green skills is critical to preparing young people for the changing global workplace.

The position was contained in a statement signed by the company’s Media Executive, Cyrena Novia, who said the call aligns with this year’s World Youth Skills Day theme, “Skills for a Shared Future,” which emphasises empowering young people with competencies required for the future of work.

As part of its commitment to youth development, the company said it recently hosted engineering students of the University of Lagos at its Gbagada facility during the 2026 World Engineering Day, exposing them to production processes and engineering innovations that support industrial development.

It also received science students from Wellspring College during this year’s Children’s Day celebration, providing them with practical exposure to engineering systems, manufacturing processes and industrial operations.

The company said the initiatives were aimed at bridging the gap between classroom learning and industrial practice while nurturing the next generation of engineers and technology professionals.

Speaking on the significance of the day, JMG’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Gloria Ibeziako, said deliberate investment in skills development and stronger collaboration between education and industry had become imperative.

“The future of every economy depends on the quality of its people. As technology continues to reshape industries, we must ensure that young people are equipped not only with technical knowledge but also with the digital, problem-solving and collaborative skills that will enable them to compete and succeed anywhere in the world.”

She added that businesses must complement government efforts by promoting mentorship, workplace exposure and technical training to prepare young people for emerging opportunities.

According to her, empowering young people with relevant skills remains essential to strengthening Nigeria’s industrial capacity and achieving long-term economic growth.

“Skills development is not just an investment in individuals; it is an investment in national progress. By nurturing a workforce that is innovative, adaptable and future-focused, we are laying the foundation for stronger industries, more resilient businesses and shared prosperity.”
