The Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB) on Wednesday concluded a two-day capacity-building workshop for archivists and Heads of Records Units across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the Lagos State Public Service, aimed at strengthening records management and information governance for improved service delivery.

The workshop, themed “Strengthening Records Surveys and Information Governance for Effective Public Service Delivery,” which was held at LASRAB House, PSSDC Road, Magodo GRA Phase II, Ikosi, Lagos, started on Tuesday and rounded up on Wednesday.

Speaking during the programme, the Director-General of LASRAB, Mr. Amodu Razaak, commended participants for their dedication and outstanding performances in their respective MDAs, reaffirming the Bureau’s commitment to continuous training and retraining of records officers to enable them meet the evolving demands of records and archives management.

Razaak charged the participants to redouble their efforts in projecting the positive image of LASRAB and upholding the values of the Lagos State Public Service.

According to him, effective records management and information governance remain critical to achieving improved public service delivery across government institutions.

He urged the participants to actively engage in interactive sessions, practical exercises and knowledge-sharing activities designed to enhance their professional competence and effectiveness.

The workshop featured presentations by seasoned professionals in the records and archives management field, including the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PWK Consultancy Services, Dr. Oseni Kolawole; Archivist at the National Archives, Ibadan, Mr. Austin Otigbu; and Head of Archives at Ikoyi Club, Dr. Ifeyinwa Okafor.

The facilitators emphasised the importance of archives as indispensable tools for accountability, transparency and good governance, while encouraging participants to embrace digital technologies in records management to improve efficiency, accessibility and the long-term preservation of government records.

They also advocated sustained investment in capacity development and the advancement of the records and archives profession in line with global best practices.

A total of 50 participants drawn from various MDAs attended the workshop, which LASRAB said underscored its commitment to building a professional, innovative and efficient records management system that supports good governance and quality public service delivery in Lagos State.
