The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a document circulating on social media claiming to contain the names of candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Federal House of Representatives elections in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 General Election.
INEC made the clarification in a statement posted on its verified X account on Monday, describing the document as fake and misleading.
The commission said the purported public notice did not emanate from it and should be disregarded by the public, political parties, stakeholders and the media.
“The Commission wishes to categorically state that the document is FAKE, misleading and did not emanate from INEC,” the statement read.
INEC further stated that it had neither authorised nor published any such notice, stressing that the alleged publication did not originate from any of its official platforms or processes.
According to the commission, the signature appearing on the document does not belong to its Secretary and is therefore fraudulent.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Commission has not authorised or published any such notice. The purported publication does not originate from any official INEC platform or process,” it stated.
The electoral body advised Nigerians to rely only on information released through its official communication channels, warning against the spread of unverified electoral information.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and credibility in the conduct of electoral activities across the country.
“The Commission remains committed to providing timely, accurate and credible information on all electoral activities,” the statement added.
