Sanwo-Olu Pledges Sustained Support for Security Agencies in Lagos

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across the state, assuring residents that his government will continue to support the police and other security agencies to sustain peace and safety.

The governor gave the assurance on Monday during a courtesy visit by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Supervising DIG for the South-West, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade, at Lagos House, Ikeja.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, Sanwo-Olu said security remains a key priority of his administration, noting that Lagos has continued to maintain its status as one of the safest states in the country.

He said the state government would deepen collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to address emerging security challenges and enhance the safety of lives and property.

According to him, the administration remains committed to working closely with the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu, in strengthening the state’s security architecture.

“We do not joke with security. We are not taking security lightly in Lagos State. We are going to continue to support the police and other security agencies to ensure that Lagos remains the safest state in Nigeria,” he said.

The governor also commended the Inspector General of Police for his continued efforts in supporting security operations in the state and congratulated DIG Fayoade on his appointment.

He further praised officers and men of the Lagos State Police Command for their professionalism and dedication to duty, assuring them of continued government support through the provision of logistics and other operational requirements.

Earlier, DIG Fayoade said his visit was part of the policy direction of the Inspector General of Police aimed at strengthening operational readiness, reviewing security strategies, and improving policing across the South-West region.

He explained that the exercise would enable the police leadership to assess operational needs and identify areas requiring additional support to enhance security effectiveness.

The DIG disclosed that observations and findings from the visits would be forwarded to the Inspector General of Police to improve operational efficiency and strengthen security coordination within the region.

Fayoade, who previously served as Commissioner of Police and Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Lagos, lauded the state government for its consistent support to the police, describing Lagos as a model for effective security partnership.

He stressed the importance of adopting technology-driven solutions, intelligence gathering, and inter-agency collaboration in combating crime, especially in a complex and economically strategic state like Lagos.

“The Lagos State Government has been tremendously supportive of the police. Lagos is unique as the economic hub of Nigeria and requires a multi-dimensional approach to security. Technology, intelligence gathering, collaboration among security agencies, and support from residents are essential to tackling crime and other security challenges,” he said.

Fayoade also called for stronger cooperation among government institutions, security agencies, and residents, noting that collective responsibility remains crucial to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
