The Lagos State Government has announced the closure of Baale Animashaun Road in Ifako-Ijaiye for eight weeks to facilitate the construction of a culvert under an ongoing drainage reconstruction project in the area.

The closure, which takes effect from June 15, will restrict vehicular movement from the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway into Baale Animashaun Road throughout the duration of the project.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the culvert is intended to channel stormwater runoff from Adfarm Estate, Adson Street and adjoining communities.

According to him, the project forms part of efforts by the state government to improve drainage infrastructure and enhance flood control within the axis.

Osiyemi said motorists heading into Baale Animashaun Road from the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway should use Ijaiye Bus Stop Junction through Agbado-Ijaiye Road (Post Office Road), connect to Alakuko Road and link back to Baale Animashaun Road.

He added that motorists may also access the area through Jendor Junction near Alakuko Junction via Alhaji Ganiyu Road to reconnect with Baale Animashaun Road.

The commissioner further stated that road users could make use of the Ajegunle-Ilo Bus Stop Junction through Adetiba Street, connect to Fagbeyiro Abayomi Street, proceed via Fola Azeez Street and rejoin Baale Animashaun Road.

“There will be no movement into Baale Animashaun Road from Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. The road will be closed for the construction works,” he said.

Osiyemi urged motorists to obey traffic signs and comply with directives from traffic management officials to ensure smooth vehicular movement during the construction period.

The construction work is expected to last for eight weeks.
