Customs Honours Retiring DCG Omale for Distinguished Service

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has honoured retiring Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG) Musa Omale, describing him as a disciplined, dependable and intellectually driven officer whose contributions left a lasting imprint on the Service.

At a retirement ceremony held at the Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, led members of the management team in celebrating Omale’s decades of service and commitment to the growth of the organisation.

Adeniyi said the tradition of celebrating retiring officers was designed to recognise their contributions, offer goodwill messages and prepare them for life after active service.

He described Omale as an officer distinguished by his love for knowledge, commitment to self-development and exemplary conduct.

Reflecting on the importance of legacy in public service, the Customs boss urged officers to remain mindful of the impact of their actions.

“When we are in service, we leave imprints and footprints because we never know how people will make reference to them later,” Adeniyi said.

He further advised the retiring officer to be cautious in his post-service investments and engagements, urging him to avoid ventures he does not fully understand.

Deputy Comptroller-General Timi Bomodi, who recalled meeting Omale 35 years ago in Port Harcourt, described him as a reliable and consistent officer whose character remained unchanged throughout his career.

“You have remained yourself all through. You are reliable and dependable, and your word is your bond,” Bomodi stated.

Director of Legal Services, Smart Akande, praised Omale’s diligence and professionalism, recalling their collaboration on prosecution matters in Port Harcourt.

According to Akande, Omale’s contributions were instrumental to the successful handling of several legal cases.

“I will not be surprised if he becomes a professor after retirement,” he added.

Assistant Comptroller-General Nafiu Isiaku and other senior officers also commended the retiring officer’s passion for learning, attention to detail and commitment to mentoring younger personnel.

In his response, Omale thanked the Comptroller-General, management team and colleagues for the honour bestowed on him, noting that his interest in academics was shaped by experiences gained during his formative years in the Service.

He pledged continued support for the Nigeria Customs Service whenever called upon and lauded Adeniyi’s leadership style, describing it as inclusive and attentive.
