LASCOPA, SRADev move against lead-contaminated products

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has commenced collaboration with the Sustainable Research and Action for Environmental Development (SRADev) Nigeria to combat lead exposure in paints, batteries, cosmetics and other consumable products.

The General Manager of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, Esq., disclosed this on Thursday while receiving the Executive Director of SRADev Nigeria and Programme Manager of the Lead Exposure Elimination Project (LEEP), Dr. Leslie Adogame, and his team at the Agency’s Allen Avenue office in Lagos.

The meeting was aimed at strengthening partnership between both organisations towards protecting consumers from hazardous and substandard products linked to lead contamination and other environmental health risks.

During the engagement, both parties discussed strategies on consumer education, public advocacy, research and enforcement initiatives to safeguard residents against unsafe consumer goods.

Speaking at the meeting, Solebo reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to consumer protection and product safety across the state.

According to him, “LASCOPA remains committed to protecting consumers’ rights and ensuring that products available in the marketplace meet established safety standards.”

He added that the Agency was ready to collaborate closely with SRADev Nigeria in advancing environmental health and consumer protection objectives.

Solebo noted that the partnership would further enhance public awareness and encourage safer consumption practices among Lagos residents.

In his remarks, Dr. Adogame stressed the importance of sustained collaboration in addressing environmental health challenges associated with lead exposure in consumer products.
