Sanwo-Olu leads Lagos APC candidates to Tinubu, seeks unity ahead of 2027

By Adebola Isimijola, Lagos

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Saturday led the 40 All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for the Lagos State House of Assembly on a traditional Sallah homage to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where the party’s flag bearers pledged to strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The visit, held at the President’s Lagos residence, was attended by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and other leaders of the ruling party in the state.

Speaking after the meeting, Sanwo-Olu said the visit provided an opportunity for the candidates to interact with the President and receive guidance on leadership, public service and party loyalty.

According to the governor, Tinubu urged the candidates to remain focused on delivering the dividends of democracy and maintaining close contact with their constituents.

He said the candidates expressed appreciation to the President for his leadership and assured him of their commitment to promoting the achievements of both the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government.

“The candidates pledged to work diligently in their constituencies and sustain public support for the APC,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

The governor disclosed that President Tinubu also advised the candidates to unite party members at the grassroots level and engage stakeholders across their constituencies to further strengthen the party.

Sanwo-Olu said the candidates assured the President that they would return to their constituencies and ensure that residents continue to enjoy the benefits of democratic governance.

Despite the APC’s strong support base in Lagos State, the governor stressed that the party would not take electoral victory for granted.

He therefore urged the candidates to reconcile with party members who contested against them during the primaries and work towards fostering greater unity within the party.

Sanwo-Olu further assured the candidates of the party’s support, saying the APC would provide the necessary structures, data and resources to strengthen their campaigns across the state.

He expressed confidence in their ability to effectively market the party’s programmes and achievements to the electorate.

“The candidates are motivated and prepared to promote the APC agenda as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum,” the governor added.
