Lagos Police Deploy Massive Security for Eid, Children’s Day Celebrations

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday announced massive deployment of personnel across the state ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir and Children’s Day celebrations to ensure security of lives and property.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement, saying the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, ordered deployment of officers to worship centres, highways, motor parks, recreation centres, critical infrastructure and other strategic locations across Lagos.

According to the statement, the deployment followed directives by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to strengthen security around Eid prayer grounds, recreational centres and other vulnerable points during the festive period.

Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders, Police Mobile Force personnel, Counter Terrorism Units, EOD-CBRN operatives and Traffic Officers were directed to intensify visibility policing, crowd control and anti-crime operations across the state.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed all officers and men deployed for the assignment to ensure visibility policing, effective crowd control and implementation of robust anti-crime prevention and control strategies to guarantee adequate security of lives and property, as well as free flow of traffic,” the statement said.

The command added that security would also be strengthened along highways, entry and exit points, linking roads and other strategic locations across Lagos.

Fatai urged police operatives to remain professional and civil in the discharge of their duties during the celebrations.

He also congratulated Muslim faithful on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration and extended greetings to children as the 2026 Children’s Day coincides with the Sallah festivities.

The police commissioner advised residents to remain security conscious and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station, while urging motorists and travellers to cooperate with officers deployed across the state.
