President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress after polling 10,999,162 votes in the party’s nationwide presidential primaries.
According to a statement issued Sunday night by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President received the party’s certificate of return and symbolic flag at the International Conference Centre in Abuja following the collation of results.
Speaking after accepting the nomination, Bola Ahmed Tinubu pledged to deepen ongoing economic reforms and strengthen national development if re-elected in 2027.
“In accepting this nomination, I renew my commitment to serve our nation with even greater determination,” Tinubu said.
“With another four years of disciplined focus and national cooperation, we will firmly place Nigeria on an irreversible path of economic expansion, industrialisation, energy security, infrastructure development, food sufficiency, and democratic consolidation.”
Chairman of the APC Presidential Election Committee, Anyim Pius Anyim, announced the results at the event attended by governors, ministers, lawmakers, party executives and supporters.
Anyim said Tinubu’s only challenger, Stanley Osifo, scored 16,503 votes, while 12,643,316 party members were registered for the exercise. He added that 11,069,746 members were accredited and 11,015,665 voted across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, 774 local government areas and 8,809 wards.
He stated that the exercise complied with guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Electoral Act and the APC constitution.
Tinubu used the occasion to defend his administration’s economic policies, saying reforms introduced in the last three years had begun yielding positive results.
“Our economy has undergone significant structural reform, supported by new tax laws and fiscal policies that have boosted revenue collection for the federation,” he said.
The President also highlighted achievements in education financing, electricity supply and infrastructure development, noting that over N282 billion had been disbursed through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund to more than 1.5 million beneficiaries.
On power supply, Tinubu said his administration had supplied 2.5 million electricity meters under the Presidential Metering Initiative and introduced a N4 trillion bond programme to settle legacy debts owed to generation and gas companies.
He further claimed that Nigeria’s power generation had at some points peaked at 6,000 megawatts, describing the sector as increasingly attractive to investors.
Tinubu acknowledged persistent security challenges in parts of the country, assuring Nigerians that his government remained committed to restoring peace and stability.
“We will not rest until we restore peace and stability to every corner of our country,” he stated.
The President also extended an olive branch to opposition parties, saying democracy thrives on dialogue, diversity and healthy political engagement.
