CBD presents scorecard as Lagos holds ministerial briefing on urban business districts

The Lagos State Central Business Districts (CBD) on Tuesday presented its scorecard, highlighting achievements recorded under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, with focus on traffic management, enforcement operations, and emergency response across major commercial corridors.

The presentation was made during the Ministerial Press Briefing Y2026 held in Lagos, where the Special Adviser on Central Business Districts, Hon. (Mrs.) Bola Olumegbon-Lawal, briefed journalists on the activities and achievements of the agency.

She said the CBD has intensified engagements with traders, community leaders, plaza operators, and business owners in Lagos Island and Ikeja, aimed at addressing environmental sanitation challenges and easing traffic congestion for a more conducive business environment.

Olumegbon-Lawal noted that the agency’s 2025 Annual Summit, themed “Rebranding and Revitalizing the Lagos Central Business District: Strategies for Sustainable Growth and Development”, held at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, helped strengthen policy direction and operational frameworks for managing key business corridors in the state.

According to her, CBD law enforcement officers also participated in mandatory in-service training at the Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI), with 70 officers drawn from Lagos Island and Ikeja formations benefiting from the programme.

She disclosed that noticeable improvements have been recorded in restoring order across key inner-city routes including Marina, Broad Street, Nnamdi Azikiwe Street, Dosumu, Ebute-Ero, Martins Street, and Idumota.

The Special Adviser further stated that the CBD enforcement team has become a first responder during emergencies such as fire outbreaks and building collapses, citing the Great Nigeria Insurance Building fire incident on Christmas Eve 2025 as an example of effective inter-agency coordination.

On enforcement, she revealed that 859 traffic offenders were arrested and prosecuted across Lagos Island and Ikeja during the period under review, while 24 tricycles were also sanctioned for offences including illegal parking, one-way driving, traffic light violations, and prohibited U-turns.

She also confirmed that seven officers were suspended for misconduct, stressing that the agency takes public complaints seriously and ensures disciplinary action where necessary.

“All complaints are duly investigated, and where officers are found culpable, appropriate sanctions are applied,” she added.
