184 APC Aspirants Screened for 40 Lagos Assembly Seats as Party Activates Appeal Process

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has concluded the screening of 184 aspirants seeking the party’s tickets for the 40 seats in the Lagos State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections, while assuring that mechanisms are in place to address any grievances arising from the exercise.

The screening exercise, which was conducted by a committee led by Porok Fomson, covered all constituencies across the state and was described as peaceful, transparent and successful.

Fomson, who addressed journalists after the conclusion of the exercise on Monday, May 11, 2026, said all aspirants who purchased nomination forms and presented themselves were duly screened in line with the constitution of the party and democratic principles.

He said: “We want to thank God for the success of the exercise because beyond just having the people and materials on ground, we met aspirants who are enthusiastic, resilient, committed and ready to put in their best.”

He added that the smooth conduct of the process reflected the unity and discipline within the party.

According to him, a total of 184 aspirants were screened successfully without any disruption.

“We had 184 aspirants who came in and were screened successfully in compliance with the constitution of the party and the tenets of democracy,” he said.

Fomson disclosed that only four aspirants withdrew after purchasing nomination forms, while no withdrawal was recorded during the screening exercise itself.

He explained that the screening committee was only responsible for aspirants vying for the State House of Assembly, noting that governorship and National Assembly screenings were handled by separate committees in Abuja.

He added that the final screening report would be released after documentation and harmonisation of records are concluded.

Breakdown of the exercise showed that Kosofe Constituency I recorded the highest number of aspirants with 10 contenders, followed by Epe Constituency II with nine, and Surulere Constituency II with eight aspirants.

Other constituencies recorded varying levels of participation, including Ifako-Ijaiye I (7), Kosofe II (7), Somolu I (6), Lagos Island II (6), and several others with between one and five aspirants each.

Meanwhile, the Acting Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Chief Olajide Adams, said the APC Appeal Committee is already in Lagos to receive and treat any complaints that may arise from the screening exercise.

Adams, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the committee would operate immediately after the release of the screening report.

“They are already in Lagos, waiting for this committee to finish their job. Once the report is ready, whoever feels dissatisfied will write to the APC,” he said.

He described the exercise as orderly, adding that aspirants were assessed based on credentials, party membership, voter registration and relevant experience.

Adams maintained that the process was fair and transparent, stressing that the party had no “anointed candidates.”

“All we want to do is be fair and transparent to everyone whose intention is to represent the party. APC Lagos State has no anointed candidates,” he said.

He urged aggrieved aspirants to make use of internal party mechanisms rather than resort to unnecessary disputes, noting that the appeal committee remains the proper channel for redress.

“APC is one family. If you contest primaries and you don’t win, you must accept the will of the people and re-evaluate yourself,” he added.

Adams expressed confidence that the party would perform strongly in the 2027 general elections, saying lessons had been learnt from previous elections and internal processes strengthened.

“We are so sure and confident that by the time the general elections come, we will sweep the state. APC is dynamic, and we have addressed areas where we did not measure up before,” he said.

The APC screening exercise is part of early preparations by the party in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections, where 40 legislative seats are expected to be contested across the state.
