The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has commenced a strategic in-house training programme for its senior officers, focusing on emotional management, professional etiquette and time management.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening operational discipline and improving service delivery across the Agency.
According to a statement by LASTMA’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, the programme is designed to reinforce professionalism, emotional intelligence and effective time utilisation in public service delivery.
The training covers professional etiquette, including courteous interpersonal relations, strict adherence to procedures and maintaining a credible institutional image, particularly in interactions with motorists and members of the public.

It also focuses on emotional management, enabling officers to respond calmly in high-pressure situations, as well as time management skills to improve productivity and operational efficiency.
Participants are also being exposed to practical exercises and case studies highlighting the consequences of poor time management and unprofessional conduct.
Speaking on the exercise, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the success of the Agency depends on discipline, professionalism and emotional stability among its personnel.
He said: “The training is also intended to promote a culture of punctuality, accountability and organised workflow among senior officers, who serve as leaders and role models within the Authority.”

Bakare-Oki added that officers are expected to uphold high standards of public service in order to strengthen public trust and maintain institutional credibility.
The programme also includes modules on cyber security, specialised report writing and presentation skills, understanding human (customer) behaviour, positive threat management and effective use of communication radio systems.
LASTMA described the initiative as a deliberate investment in human capital development aligned with global best practices in traffic management and public administration.
The Authority added that the training is expected to improve coordination, enhance public interaction and strengthen discipline across all levels of its workforce.
The statement was signed by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA.
